The Hobbit, Leather bound, illustrated by Alan Lee

*Please note that this book is Hand Sewn on five cords and rebound in the traditional method and not simply recovered*

I bound 'The Hobbit' written by J.R.R Tolkien in aged leather. The spine presents five raised bands and six compartments decorated and lettered with 24K gold leaves. The plates are gilded with 18th Century tools impressed in 24K gold. At the center of the plates there are Hobbit symbols integrated with 18th centuries decorations to create harmony. The plates edges are blind tooled and the three edges of the book are marbled. I did some aging on the gild and on the leather for overall harmony. For the last, I added a tooled leather bookmark.  

All processes are performed by hands without using any machine to respect tradition and environment. It takes a long time to bind a book but it allows me to put a piece of my soul into each book.
